Minecraft's highly-anticipated Caves & Cliffs Update: Part 2 will launch at the end of this month, but some planned features will sadly be left out.
A release date for Minecraft's upcoming Caves & Cliffs Update: Part 2 has been officially announced by developer Mojang. The highly-anticipated update will act as a follow-up to Caves & Cliffs: Part 1, which launched back in June 2021.
Focusing on Minecraft's terrain generation system, the Caves & Cliffs update is meant to improve the way biomes are generated while also adding exciting new content to discover within them.
The latest from the updated Minecraft FAQ reads: “The Caves & Cliffs Update will release in two parts; the first (1.17) was released on June 8th 2021, and the second (1.18) will be released later this year.
“The decision to release Caves & Cliffs in two parts is the result of taking on our most ambitious update to date while our team also continues to navigate the challenges of working remotely.
“By giving our development team some extra time, they will be able to deliver an array of exciting features without compromising on quality, reliability, or functionality for players.
The first part of the Caves & Cliffs Update will focus on some cute and fun mobs, cool items, and new blocks. For the full list of new features for Part I, take a look at the final changelog for Java and Bedrock.”
And it wasn’t that long ago that the latest Minecraft snapshot was launched by the Mojang team.
Snapshot 21W43A is available to download now and includes the new world blending features revealed during the October Minecraft Live event.
This means that world generation around the edges of an old world will now be adjusted for a smoother transition, with the space underneath existing chunks also filled in, but only with deepslate.
Mojang says they will be adding full cave generation in this place later on, meaning there could be another snapshot released before the Caves and Cliffs Part 2 update is ready to launch.
